Having to deal with bad behavior in your English Bulldog can be a real challenge, but it’s not impossible. The thing to remember in handling bad behavior in English Bulldogs is a combination of gentleness and firmness.
Gentleness means using humane handling methods, NEVER hitting or kicking the bulldog. They should also be generously praised when they behave in the correct way.
Firmness means using a calm controlled, but very firm, tone and attitude. Bad dog behavior for example can be prevented in the puppy stage by firmly holding the puppy in place if it struggles or attempts to disobey. Larger dogs can also be consistently prevented from showing bad behavior by constantly reminding them that you are the pack leader.
The pack leader eats first, chooses where he or she is going to sit or lay down, and passes through doorways or hallways first. The dog must follow the pack leader, and give up it’s position to the pack leader. Becoming the pack leader yourself is the best way to prevent problems and bad behavior in your dog.
